朝4時半の出発から始まった一日

朝4時半、まだ真っ暗な中、家族3人で東京ビッグサイトに向けて出発した。息子は毛布を抱えたまま車に乗り込み、半分寝ながらも少しワクワクしている様子。6時前に駐車場付近に着くと、すでに車が何台も並んでいて「みんな早いな…」というのが第一印象だった。

今回はアーリーチケットではなかったので、10時まで車内で仮眠。家族で横になって少し休みながら、そのまま会場のオープンを待った。

開場後、最初に向かったのはラリー車のイベント！！三菱トライトン、パジェロ、トヨタのハイラックス、HINOのラリートラック（HINO 500 Series）。どの車も近くで見ると迫力があって、単純に「すごい…」と感じた。息子も大興奮だったけど、正直、自分がいちばんテンション上がっていた気がする。

会場の展示で感じた「未来」

Hondaのブースは特に印象的だった。ロケット機体の再使用技術だけでなく、再生可能燃料を使った「サステナブルロケット」の実験機が実物で展示されていて驚いた。2025年6月に北海道で実際に離着陸実験をしたという説明があり、「自動車メーカーの枠を超えている」と素直に思った。

三菱の新型デリカD:5も実際に見るとかなり良かった。家族向けの車としての魅力もあって、夫婦で「これは人気出るね」と話していた。ベンツのAMG G 63はやっぱり存在感が強く、内部の演出（照明やサウンド）も印象に残った。TOYOTAのCentury Coupeは世界初公開ということもあり、人だかりが絶えなかった。

自動運転のトークセッションでは、チョコレートプラネット長田さん、シソンヌ長谷川さんが登場。アメリカや中国での無人運転サービス、日本の現状などが分かりやすくまとめられていた。「自動運転はまだまだ先」というイメージが少し変わった。

トミカ整理券4000番台と、息子の「今日いちばんの笑顔」

今回、いちばん大変だったのはトミカの整理券。まさかの4000番台で、途中で「これは無理かも…」と思った。それでも息子が「ほしい…」と何度も言うので並び続けた結果、17:30にやっと購入できた。

の3つ。

袋を渡した瞬間の息子の表情を見たら、疲れは一気に吹き飛んだ。今日いちばん喜んでいたのはそこだったかもしれない。

一日を振り返って

展示全体を見て感じたのは、化石燃料から次の時代へ進む流れがはっきりしていること。そして、自動運転は「いつか来る未来」ではなく、もう具体的なステップに入っているということ。家族で行ったことで「ただの展示会」ではなく、良い思い出にもなったし、目の前で未来の技術を見られたことで「世の中が動いている」という実感もあった。

また来年も息子を連れて来たい。そんな一日だった。

The day that started with a 4:30 a.m. departure

We left the house at 4:30 in the morning, long before sunrise, and headed to Tokyo Big Sight as a family of three. Our son climbed into the car still holding his blanket, half-asleep but clearly excited. When we arrived near the parking lot a little before 6 a.m., there were already several cars lined up. My first thought was simply, Wow, everyone’s really early…

Since we didn’t have early-access tickets, we ended up taking a nap in the car until the doors opened at 10. We stretched out together, got a bit of rest, and waited for the day to begin.

Once the venue opened, the first place we headed was the rally car area. Mitsubishi’s Triton, the Pajero, Toyota’s Hilux, and the massive HINO 500 Series rally truck—seeing them up close was impressive. My son was thrilled, but honestly, I think I was the most excited out of the three of us.

A glimpse of the future inside the venue

Honda’s booth stood out the most. They weren’t just showing off reusable rocket technologies—they actually displayed a prototype of their “sustainable rocket,” which uses renewable fuel. Learning that they conducted a real landing/takeoff test in Hokkaido in June 2025 genuinely surprised me. It made me think, “Honda is no longer just a car company.”

Mitsubishi’s new Delica D:5 also looked great in person. It has a strong family-vehicle appeal, and my husband and I agreed, This is going to be popular.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 had a powerful presence, and the lighting and sound inside the booth made the experience even more memorable. Toyota’s Century Coupe—making its world premiere—was surrounded by people the entire time.

At the autonomous driving talk session, comedians Nagata (Chocolate Planet) and Hasegawa (Shisonnu) joined the stage. The explanation comparing unmanned ride services in the U.S. and China with Japan’s current situation was easy to understand. My old belief that “autonomous driving is still far away” shifted quite a bit.

The 4,000th Tomica ticket and my son’s biggest smile

The hardest part of the day was definitely the Tomica ticket line. I froze when I saw our number: over 4,000. There were moments when I thought, Okay… maybe this isn’t happening today.
But our son kept saying I want it… over and over, so we stayed in line.

Finally, at 5:30 p.m., we managed to buy:

• Mitsubishi Triton
• UD Trucks Quon Penguin Transporter
• Honda Freed

The moment I handed him the bag, his whole face lit up. That smile made every minute of waiting worth it. I think that was his happiest moment of the entire day.

Looking back on the day

Walking through the exhibits, I felt a clear shift: we’re really moving away from fossil fuels. And autonomous driving isn’t a “future dream” anymore—it’s already entering the practical stage.

Going as a family made the experience more than just a show. It became a good memory, and seeing the technologies right in front of us made me realize how quickly the world is changing.

I’d love to bring my son again next year.
It was that kind of day.
